Why is my website not showing on Google?
Usually one of four reasons: the site has not been indexed, it is blocked from indexing, there is no page targeting what people search for, or there is a page but stronger competitors outrank it. Google Search Console tells you which of the four applies.
Check whether you are indexed at all
Search for site:yourdomain.co.za in Google. If nothing appears, the site is not indexed and no amount of content work will help until that is resolved.
Common blockers
- A noindex tag left in place from development.
- robots.txt disallowing crawlers.
- No sitemap submitted in Google Search Console.
- A brand-new domain that simply has not been crawled yet.
- Content rendered in a way crawlers cannot read.
You are indexed but not ranking
If pages are indexed and still invisible, the issue is usually relevance. Check that a specific page targets the phrase you want to rank for, that the title and heading reflect it, and that the page genuinely answers the query better than the results currently ranking.
Set up Google Search Console properly
- Verify the property for your exact domain.
- Submit your sitemap.xml.
- Use URL Inspection to request indexing of important pages.
- Review the Pages report for excluded URLs and the reasons given.
- Watch queries where you rank between positions five and twenty — those are the easiest gains.
Be realistic about timing
A new page can be indexed within days but usually needs several weeks to find its position, and longer in competitive categories. Consistent structural work beats frequent redesigns.
